The town of Riihimäki isn’t exactly a Mecca of nature photography. Not a hundred kilometers northwards I could pretty much pick a direction, start driving and the scenery would deliver. Here… not exactly. This location apparently passes for a rapid and a nature trail.

Next week: Finnish and Norwegian Lapland. Snow, mountains, minimal light pollution and hopefully some pretty aurorae.

Dawn

To directly quote the deviantART entry for this one: “There’s a scenic route to my parent’s house in my hometown. To divert lorry traffic from the suburbs, that route is now technically closed, which means there’s a few spots you really need to squeeze through. Along the way is my favorite fog site.”

The thing about autumn is: It’s dark out, but you don’t have to freeze to death.

Two lucky views from the past week. With all the commercial projects and school stuff, photography is pretty much the one possible personal artsy thing available.

By the white water

Which is an alternative way of saying: “Another picture of a rapid, but with the help of a calibrated screen.” 6 exposures, lots of postwork (quite a few things managed to move around by the time they were all taken).
Larger in deviantART, through here.

My new project involves a shipping company, dancing men (some dressed up as women) and lots of After Effects compositions. This one ought to get psychedelic quicker than boring.

Northern rapids

‘Twas suddenly time for a vacation, and what better way to burn the land and boil the seas than with an automobile. Having reached southern Lapland I immediately saw something small, grey and fuzzy running around, raised my camera and was greeted with the delightful message of “No card.” I love you too, new DSLR. Hide while you can.

The universal lesson here being: Bring the old camera along, too. It has a CF-card in it.

Lens testing: Birds

I took the new 100-400 for a spin to a swampy bird lake nearby. I had sneakers, so the swamp ate my feet. Also, the sneakers. But hey: An osprey!

Midsummer II

I decided to check out what a modern consumer DSLR -shot video looks like. And the answer is: Almost decent. I can name a few things that could help: Sunlight, the 3rd party firmware, a lens not made exclusively out of black holes and plastic…

Midsummer

The swan song of the faithful 350D, being replaced by a younger mistress.
